Whether you are a career girl in the industry or girl boss growing your own company, you need to consider these valuable "Do" and "Don't" to achieving success in whatever you do.
1. Do Work Hard Consistently
Developing a good work ethic is critical to one’s level of success. Whether someone’s watching you are not shouldn’t matter. Successful people aren’t out to solely impress others, they’re out to make an impact. And no matter how much success you’ve achieved up to this point in your career or business, it doesn’t give you a pass to stop and take it easy. Success is a journey and hard work is the fuel that will get your there. So stop daydreaming girl, and keep on working!
“All roads that lead to success hat to pass through HARD WORK Boulevard at some point”
2. Do Deliver What You Promise
Success is built on a foundation of trust that you build with your colleagues, clients and customers. You only get one shot to make a first impression, so once you disappoint a client or customer it’s hard to gain their trust and confidence again. Also, more people will tell their friends or colleagues about a negative experience than a positive one so you don’t want word to get around that you are not a reliable person.
3. Do Treat People With Respect
No matter who you are dealing with whether an intern or the CEO of your company, or a rather rude and difficult customer, you need to treat everyone with respect. You never know who you will meet along your road to success and who will talk about you. Establishing a good reputation in the minds of everyone you interact with can pay back in dividends down the road.
"Show respect even to people who don't deserve it; not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours."
4. Do Everything With Intention
Successful people don't focus on just the 'what' and the 'how', but also the 'why'. We have a bad habit as busy people to forget to do things with intention and purpose. Rather than going about our day in a routine sort of way, we need to figure out why we are doing what we are doing. The 'why' behind all we do in business equates to your intention behind what you do each day, and why it matters most. If you have a specific aim and focus behind all your actions, your outcome will dramatically improve, whether your goal is to increase sales, or increase your productivity, these are goals that require a thought out plan, and thoughtful actions to back up this plan. With this mindset, you are sure to see more success in your future.
5. Don't Compromise Your Values
While we all want to be super successful, we shouldn't want to achieve it at any cost. Feelings of guilt or regret of poor choices along the way will surely sour the sweet taste of success, so be a women of integrity in all of your dealings. Be the example of success that women after you will want to emulate.
6. Do Be Honest
It pays to be honest in all your business dealings. Owning up to a mistake or a problem you've encountered and following up with a plan of action to rectify the situation, will show others that you are not only wiling to be accountable, but you are able to take charge and handle the situation. Even if it means you miss a deadline or order, people will still respect the fact that you are up front with them, and respect you more in the process.
"When you walk a life of honesty, you live a life of truth."
7. Do Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses
This is an important 'Do'. I definitely recommend you take some time to think about your strengths and your weaknesses. By doing so you can easier build a plan of action in achieving your goals, and assess what tasks are best for you to focus on and which are better to delegate to someone else more skilled in that area. As a result, you'll be able to use your time more efficiently and achieve your goals much faster. It's really a win-win.
8. Don't Say Yes to Everything
Even after that double espresso in the morning, let's face it girls, we just can't do everything. So that's why it's so important to not try and please everyone by saying "yes" to every request that is asked of you. Stretching yourself out too thin, will only lead to burnout and more disappointed people, including yourself. So don't sabotage yourself by setting yourself up to fail. Know your limits, and learn to say no.
9. Don't Be Afraid To Ask For Help
This 'Don't' actually ties in with number 8. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and although you may not need an entire village to help you on your way to success, more likely than not you will not be able to do everything you need to on a day-to-day basis by yourself. So don't let your pride keep you from tapping into a great resource for help. Even the most successful people have many to thank for helping them along the way.
10. Don't Forget Those That Help You On Your Way Up
This 'Don't' ties to number 9. We don't ever want to be someone that uses people to climb the ladder of success. When we do get help, we need to have a grateful and humble spirit. And be there for them if they ever need you. Success isn't only about building your status or bank account, but also building valuable relationships.
